How diamond prices are calculated

Understand how weight, shape, the 4Cs, proportions, origin, documentation and live availability combine in a single offer.

Price is a combination, not a single grade.

There is no universal “carat multiplied by a fixed rate” formula. Weight is only the starting point. Shape, colour, clarity, cut quality, proportions, polish, symmetry, fluorescence, grading report, origin and current supply all influence the commercial value.

Price per carat is therefore useful only when the stones being compared are sufficiently close across the other specifications.

From raw data to a comparable offer

Define non-negotiable criteria

Set origin, shape, carat range, minimum colour and clarity, preferred laboratory and budget. An overly broad search mixes offers that are not meaningfully comparable.

Review face-up characteristics

Diameter, depth, table and length-to-width ratio can change how a stone looks without changing its carat weight.

Compare commercial terms

Tax, shipping, timing, currency and confirmed availability all belong in the final price comparison.

Use a live market view

Diamonds are individual offers and market conditions move. DiamondTrade therefore uses a current catalogue and precise filters rather than presenting a static price list as universally valid.

The selected stone is confirmed before fulfilment. This matters for unique offers that may be reserved by another buyer.

From information to a precise shortlist.

Apply the criteria to the current catalogue, then verify documentation, price and availability for the selected stone.
